This is my entry, for fun, for Seventh Sanctum's "Classic Cooler" contest. Note the useless alliteration. :D Anywho...

A few spins of the Classic Cooler random generator got me this:
"Alice's Adventures in Wonderland(Lewis Carrol) with vampires and a film noir feel!"

I think I did pretty well. And yes, it does say Lewis Carrol, but I liked Tim Burton's version of the Hatter better so... yeah. Turned him into a vampire. :D I was also going to attempt to stick the red queen and the rabbit in there somewhere, but couldn't figure out how other than the obvious quote and the bloody heart up in the right corner.
Hey! At least the Hatter isn't sparkley! Good gawd.

Alice in Wonderland isn't mine, but the art is. So don't steal it please.

Film noir is supposed to be dark and kind of spooky, so, dark and kind of spooky I did.

ok, then we have a definition-based misunderstanding...
I would describe film noir as a very nihilistic/pessimistic genre, more violence driven.
The Actors of this genre are mostly chain-smoking alcohol-sick lowlife private detectives (that types, that are sleeping in their offices), that use methods far beyond what's legal, and this are the good guys.
I would describe it as a genre full of rejection, unsatisfaction, alienation, self-hatred and arbitrary law.

Horror allways goes good with noir, (especially H.P.Lovecraft, because of the time, his stories played in), but doesn't have to.

In fact, this allready would be supposed a genre mix.

Ok, i've told myself not to quote wikipedia, since this is my opinion, but i couldn't resist:
"Film noir's aesthetics are deeply influenced by German Expressionism, an artistic movement of the 1910s and 1920s that involved theater, photography, painting, sculpture, and architecture, as well as cinema."

I'd suggest watching some of that movies, they're simply great.
Maybe then you'll get my point.

regards,
Markus

Nice description! That's kind of what I was attempting to say, minus the drugs and alcohol part; I tend toward trying to keep it clean.

hmm, i would suspect that it could be pretty difficult, to keep the 20s and 30s clean (this would look like a misplaced naive view of the scene), the big years for that point of view are the (american) 50s, but even there it's only pretended (because everyone's panicking of nukes, comunists) -- they're both pretty interesting ages, connected to special genres.

As well as a big part of the Noir-stuff was based on the american prohibition, what means - not only the big and famous gansters (and mobsters) as al capone as well as alcohol smugglers, and everyone is drinking, even if it's illegal.

Also the 'clean' alcoholic is a main character of the scene, since alkohol is illegal (in the states), and healthcare was not such a big deal then.
Even harmful effects of cigarette smoke where not known - in fact, almost everybody smoked, and the brand of cigarettes one smoked was sort of neccesairy display of status.

Seen from the 21st century point of view, the first half of the 20th century was all but clean, might it be the post-industrial age, the world wars, financial crisis or the appereance of the diesel and later gasoline powered engines.

Also enviromentalism was not invented then.

But i only just love to talk and write about that (never really discovered, why)

allthough this is not an attempt to (sort of) talk your work down, it's well done. It's only that - in my opinion, it's a pretty rich genre, and every artist talented enough will get pretty much out of it.

regards
Markus.

Good job! I like the atmosphere and the way the colors work together to make it look very dark.
